About Us

Luke Thomas is a man whose everyday life revolves around horses and always has, from childhood they were his best friends and as an adult they are both his passion and his business. Luke first started breaking in horses professionally at age 15, then progressed to working for master breakers Max Crockett and Harry Meyers, the man who educated no fewer than five Melbourne Cup winners. Meyers said of Luke, "He has more understanding and feel for horses than anyone I've ever met."

 

 

After learning from the best in the business, Luke honed his skills around Canberra and Queanbeyan, breaking horses for the majority of local trainers, until at age 18 he set off for Queensland and the Northern Territory in search of adventure. Seeking work on the cattle stations breaking in horses, Luke started in South West Queensland working up into the Gulf Country and Barkley Tablelands, then through to the Northern Territory and on to the Kimberleys.

The wild country often produced equally wild horses and it was not uncommon to be asked to break horses that were eight years old and never been touched. The challenge and excitement proved addictive and Luke continued up north for a number of years, travelling back home to the South Coast in the wet season to break in for old clients and find new ones. During this period he broke hundreds of horses and the lessons learned have proven invaluable.

 

 

With his local client base growing all the time, Luke gave away going up north to establish his own property at Milton, building yards, stables and first rate horse facilities. All was good, but in 2000 he got itchy feet and headed north again. Luke returned to the South Coast in 2002 and has since set about building his home and business around the breaking and education of young horses.

Luke breaks in all horses from valuable thoroughbreds destined for the track, to stock horses, pony clubbers and equestrian mounts. The breaking in process is the single most important event in the life of any horse and with the expert skills and management of Luke and his team, your horse is guaranteed a flying start.
